Honestly speaking, I’ve been consuming dairy milk for the longest time since I was a kid, you could say I’m huge fan of milk. Until 2 years ago, I discovered the existence of plant based milk. They are basically non-dairy milk, the alternatives of cow’s milk. Some of the popular plant based milk choices are oats, almond, soy, rice as well as coconut milk. In the recent years, people are starting to dive into the world of plant based milk and never turning back to regular dairy milks despite the cost of plant based milks are more expensive than any dairy milk out there. Needless to say, there are plenty of reasons to choose plant based milk over dairy milk so keep reading this and you might change your mind to start switch away from dairy milk, provided that if you’re a dairy milk consumer like how I used to be!
First off, plant based milks are generally healthier options compared to dairy milk! In fact, these plant based milk are much lower in fat and calories than dairy milk and they’re mostly cholesterol free. Moreover, plant based milk is a great milk alternative for people who are lactose intolerant and are allergic to cow milk. These plant based milk are packed in nutrients and each type of milk has different nutrition facts so it depends on what you’re looking for. My favourite milk at the moment is almond milk as I love the taste of it; it goes so well with my cereals, not to mention it is rich in vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin E.
Another reason to start drinking plant based milk is they’re better for our mother earth. This became a solid reason for me to stop consuming cow milk because there are researches show that dairy production causes a significant negative impact to climate changes. To be specific, the emission of gases in milk production such as methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide are harmful to the environment and it becomes a top contributor to the climate crisis. Besides that, dairy farms cause water pollution because cow urines contain high levels of nitrogen which majorly affect public waters as well as aquatic life.
If you still think you can’t switch away from cow milk, then don’t force yourself but know that variety is the spice of life! It is okay to enjoy both plant based milk and cow milk at the same time. Some days you might want some creamy milky dairy milk, then on some other days you want to switch things up and get some refreshing plant based milk, which is totally fine! There are literally so many choices to choose from when it comes to plant based milk so it really comes down to your own preferences. However, I’m writing this to encourage you to get into the amazing world of plant based milk because it is a more environmental friendly and healthier option. Trust me, you really don’t want to miss out these good stuff.
